![]() ![]() It is definately something you can do yourself. Grab a service manual and study up about the proceedure. ![]() Putting the engine back in time is fairly simple and straight forward. The hardest thing about it is not letting the chain fall into the lower cases when removing the head and then fishing it back up through the head when re-installing the head. In general it is not a huge job to do (you don't have to remove the engine from the frame) however you will have to deal with removing the head, cam chain and related parts. People ride them like that for years (I rode mine for 20,000 miles before I replaced the original gasket). I would not worry a hole lot about it, the oil leaks enough to make a little mess as you see but never will it ever start "squirting" out of there. That type of head gasket leak is pretty common on the KZ400 (I have a 74 model).
